The Ministry of Environment marked the 7th Global Recycling Day 2025 on March 18, 2025, at the auditorium of the Ministry of Environment, emphasizing the importance of recycling and inspiring collective action to reduce waste and protect the environment.
The inauguration session was held under the patronage of Hon. Dr. Dammika Patabendi, Minister of Environment, alongside Mr. K. R. Uduwawala, Secretary of the Ministry of Environment. The event brought together key government officials, sector experts, recyclers, private sector representatives, and civil society stakeholders.
As part of the celebrations, an awareness program was conducted for 50 plastic recycling entrepreneurs registered under the Western Province Waste Management Authority, covering Colombo, Gampaha, and Kalutara districts. The session featured in-depth discussions led by experts in the field, providing valuable insights and guidance for sustainable recycling practices.
The event was organized in collaboration with the Western Province Waste Management Authority, Biodiversity Sri Lanka, and the PLASTICS (Promoting Long-term Approaches for a Sustainable, Transformative, and Inclusive Circular Economy in Sri Lanka) project, funded by the EU Switch Asia Programme.
This initiative reinforces the Ministry of Environment’s commitment to fostering a circular economy and sustainable waste management in Sri Lanka.
