The Water Resources Board (WRB) is the designated national authority responsible for all matters related to water resources. It was established under the Water Resources Act No. 29 of 1964 and later strengthened through amendments in 1999 and Gazette No. 2010/23 in 2017, which expanded its mandate to regulate, control, and manage groundwater resources.
Currently, the WRB primarily focuses on regulatory functions, as well as the development and management of groundwater resources. These efforts are supported by research, development, and monitoring studies aligned with national policies, ensuring the long-term sustainable management of the country's groundwater resources.
