The Two-day workshop has been conducted on 14th & 15th June 2023 at Hotel Janaki, Narahenpita under the project “Marine Litter and Microplastic” (NORAD1). Implementing partners of the project are University of Peradeniya, Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES) and Human & Environment Links Progressive Organization (HELP-O). The technical assistance of the project is from United Nations Environment Program (UNEP). The opening remarks of the workshop was made by Additional Secretary (EP&P), Ministry of Environment. The participants for this workshop were government officials, Representatives from private sector and NGOs.
The objectives of the workshop were;
Day 01 - 14th June
- To aware the stakeholders on the recent changes in the Basel Convention related to plastic waste management
- To present the plastic inventory developed and receive feedback of the participants for making it an annual practice
Day 02 – 15th June
- To present the findings of the pilot activities carried out under NORAD1 project in three sectors namely, Fisheries, Packaging and Microplastic.
- To get stakeholders’ feedback to scale up the pilot projects to the national level.
