The Biodiversity Secretariat of the Ministry of Environment prepared the National Guidelines for Restoration of Mangrove Ecosystems in Sri Lanka with the technical support provided by the mangrove experts. This guide provides the science for implementing the restoration of mangrove ecosystems, it introduces the forms developed by the Ministry of Environment to plan and implement restoration projects, all key agencies and personnel to obtain relevant approvals, a logical key for decision making that you can follow to select the best approach for a given site, tips on how to collect, store and plant seeds and manage seedlings, basic instruments required to obtain measurements and most importantly, this book is made for anyone with a passion to restore mangroves.
Accordingly, a Training Workshop on Blue Carbon Ecosystems and demonstration of how to use the National Guidelines for the restoration of mangrove ecosystems of Sri Lanka was held on 4th April, 2024 for the Officers of Sri Lanka Navy in Colombo with the support of Sri Lanka Navy.
The technical support for this workshop voluntarily provided by Prof. Sevvandi Jayakody (Chair Professor, Wayamba University of Sri Lanka / Chairperson, National Expert Committee on Mangrove Conservation and sustainable use and Member of Conservation and restoration of Blue Carbon Ecosystems established under the Ministry of Environment), Dr. Jagath Gunawrdana (Senior environmentalist and legal expert).Dr. Manoj Prasanna (Mangrove expert - Member of National Expert Committee on Mangrove Conservation and sustainable use and Task Force for Conservation and restoration of Blue Carbon Ecosystems established under the Ministry of Environment), Mr. Susantha Udagedara (Seagrass expert, Director /Blue Resources Trust, Member of Task Force for Conservation and restoration of Blue Carbon Ecosystems) .
