On 11th June 2025, a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed at the Ministry of Environment to upgrade the capacity of Technical and Vocational Education & Training (TVET) institutes in Sri Lanka. The MOU was signed between the Ministry of Environment, the Tertiary and Vocational Education Commission (TVEC), the National Apprentice and Industrial Training Authority (NAITA), the National Youth Services Council (NYSC), and the Vocational Training Authority (VTA).
Under this MOU, modern Refrigeration and Air Conditioning (RAC) training equipment and tools valued at approximately LKR 42 million will be provided to selected TVET institutes. This initiative is part of the ongoing project on implementing the Montreal Protocol in Sri Lanka, which is being carried out by the Air Resources Management & National Ozone Unit of the Ministry of Environment.
This aims to strengthen the capacity of TVET institutes to deliver high-quality training on Good Servicing Practices, modern RAC technologies, and technical education. It also seeks to align vocational training with evolving industry standards and support the development of a skilled workforce in energy-efficient and environmentally friendly cooling technologies. By upgrading training facilities, it contributes to improving the overall quality and relevance of vocational training in the RAC sector, complying with Montreal Protocol targets.
