A tree planting program was conducted with collaboration of Ministry of Environment and Sri Lanka Army under the Program of “Surskimu Ganga” “Husmadena Thuru” and “Thuru Mithuru Nawa Ratak” to coincide with the 62nd “Army Day”.
The national tree planting program was held on 10th sept 2021 at 10.10 a.m. at defence headquarters complex in Akuragoda with the participation of Hon. Mahinda Amaraweera, Minister of environment. Dr. Anil Jasinghe, Secretary of Ministry of Environment, Senior Officials of the Sri Lanka Army, Chairman of Central Environmental Authority, Director of Environmental Planning and Economics, Program Manager of Surakimu Ganga Program, Director General of Geological Survey and Mines Bureau and Lieutenant Colonel Rajitha Dissanayake of Civil Defense Department were take part in ceremony.
Totally 10,000 Kumbuk tree plants (7,000 of kumbuk tree plants given to the “Surakimu Ganga” program by Department Of Civil Security and 3,000 kumbuk tree plants given by Forest Conservation Department) were planted island wide successfully focusing on protection of river ecosystems and enhance of forest cover of the country.
