International day of Zero Waste was commemorated on 30th of March for the first time at Water's Edge -, Battaramulla by the Ministry of Environment and Central Environmental Authority, with the support of UDAID- Ocean Plastic Reduction Activity. 

The chief guest of the event was Minister of Environment, Hon Naseer Ahamed and the  Guest of Honor was Her Excellency. R. DemetŞekercioğlu, Ambassador of the Republic of Türkiye, Dr Anil Jasinghe, Secretary Ministry of Environment, Mr. Supun Pathirage- Chairman Central Environment Authority, Mr. Hemantha Jayasinghe - Director General Of Central Environmental Authority, participated in the inauguration. The Key Not Address was made by Prof. Ajth de Alwis,  Professor of Chemical and Process Engineering, University of Moratuwa.

There were videos and presentations on Zero Waste innovations from government and private sector representatives, followed by a panel discussion moderated by Prof. Rangika Halwathura of the University of Moratuwa.
